TOS Review ~ Travel the World

Our family had the opportunity to review the full colored ebook, Travel the World, provided by The Old School House which is a module contained in  The Schoolhouse Planner.  This little 56 paged ebook comes solely in ebook form.  You can choose to purchase the modules by themselves or accumulate them with The Schoolhouse Planner.

The purpose of this ebook is to provide a general overview of the world to students of all ages by traveling to all 7 continents.  An interesting and comprehensive introduction is provided in the beginning of the ebook to familiarize your students with the basics of geography from a christian perspective.  The introduction really got my ds 13, 12, and 9 pumped up to begin their travel adventures for the next 7 days. In addition to the comprehensive introduction, this little gem of an ebook is a brief overview of all 7 continents with various links and numerous printable worksheets, such as, word scrambles, word searches, cross word puzzles, and rebus puzzles.  Lapbooking is encouraged to document the students learning and links are provided to get you started with this process.  Kinda like a 101 lapbooking course.  Very helpful if you aren't familiar with the lapbooking approach.  Also, manuscript and cursive copywork printables are available too.  A few recipes are included in Travel the World, but we didn't take advantage of them. I thought it was very helpful that a high school expansion is included for a more extensive study on the 7 continents.

Our family studied World Geography last year, so we used this as review.  It was a great reinforcement for my ds 13, 12, and 9.  I read the introduction over a 3 day span.  Each day I had the student travel to one continent and view the provided links.  I required them to each complete a notebook page on Publisher instead of lapbooking for each continent.  We are more notebooking people rather than lapbooking.  Also, I required each child to complete a page of copywork each day.  I really let the boys explore the links by themselves and let them dig deeper into their topic of interest for that particular continent.  To my surprise, each child learned something new about each continent. There was absolutely no preparation for me.  Gotta love that!  Not to mention they actually learned some new stuff that Mom didn't teach them last year.

All families of all ages can benefit from this module.  It can be taught to as a group or can be student taught. Like I mentioned before, I read the introduction out loud as a family and then I let my boys explore the ebook and provided links individually.  I really liked the cute song they provided to remember the 7 continents.  Even my little ones were singing with us.  It is definitely worth the 7.95 for all the knowledge your children will gain in this ebook.  However, I don't think I would use it for an exclusive World Geography course, but more of a general introduction or review.  It would be perfect for elementary students to get the basics and aid them in a gentle self teaching approach using the internet.  Also, Travel the World would be a fun summer course to complete when you don't want to do all the basics but still engage in some sort of learning.

Now hurry and hop to the TOS Store in order to travel the world today. Or peek inside here if your not sure it's a fit for your kiddos. To see other items from the publisher, click here.   Safe Travels!

I received a free Travel the World  ebook for the purpose of writing an honest review. No other compensation was given.
